Microplastics
Microplastics are an invisible danger and the G7 summit classified plastic pollution as a top emerging global issue. The problem starts off as macroplastic, what you can see, and when it gets beat up in the environment it starts breaking down in smaller and smaller pieces ultimately to become microplastic.
Microplastics are particles of plastic origin, of small dimensions, between 5mm and 300 μm. Since they cannot be reabsorbed naturally by the environment, they tend to accumulate, bringing numerous effects on the ecosystem and ultimately on our health.
Take Action
Plastic is a valuable product. We are reliant on it and a future without it is completely unrealistic, but we can’t, and we shouldn’t continue to use it and produce it on the increasing trajectory that we are currently on. Plastic prduction continues to increase rapidly. Of all the plastic generated 15% of it is collected for recycling, but only 9% is being recycled properly. Meanwhile, emissions of plastic waste into aquatic ecosystems are projected to nearly triple by 2040 without meaningful action.
We must change these estimations by starting taking action in our daily life.

Plastic Sailors is a voluntary association born in April 2023. The aim is to inform as many people as possible about the dangers of plastic pollution and its direct linked problem: microplastics. It’s hard to imagine how bad the situation really is, thus we created this association and this website to spread awarness about these new topics.
